CHAPTER 5 SCIENCE MEDIA ASSIGNMENT

In chapter 5 we have been learning how renewable and nonrenewable resources are being used to make things for our everyday use. We have also discussed how the usages of these resources are depleting vital minerals and fossil fuels from our earth. You will watch a video from Discovery Education about how researchers and scientists are finding resources from algae or “pondscum”. Please follow all directions so that you may be able to answer the questions correctly.

1. Go to www.discoveryeducation.com
2. Select the Passcode/New User tab and enter the school’s passcode which is: 4C30-9F04
3. Click on Submit to create your own username and password. You must write this information down as this will be your personal and private name and password. We will be using this site many times during the year and this site will also be useful to you for your Science Fair project.
4. At the top center of the page there is a search engine. Plug in the words: oil from algae video and press “search”. This should lead you to two choices of video: “Oil from Algae?” (5:26) or “Fuel Alternatives” (9:27). You will be watching the “Oil from Algae?” video segment
