Did you Know?
Facts about our curriculum and services:
- That St. Joan of Arc School came into being in 1924 because of Father Ward Meehan.
- That in 1989, we were accredited by the Middle States Association and successfully completed our re-accreditation in 1999 and recently reaccredited in December 2009. Presently Faculty is working on actions plans which will be reviewed every 3 years along with a site visit to the school.
- That we were designated a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1996/1997 by the U.S. Dept. of Education and still hold that honor. Presently, we are in the process of beginning the re-evaluation process.
- That we have a comprehensive academic program including Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Religion, Art, Music, Computer Education, Foreign Language, Physical Education, and Library.
- That we have a Learning Center with a full time teachers dedicated to helping students. For the 2009-2010 school year, we had 75 students participate in our Learning Center. Students with active IEPs also receive small class instruction after school depending on the requirements of their IEP right here at St. Joan's.
Next year, September 2010-June 2011, there will be three full time teachers in the Learning Center with 4 part time teachers.
- That we have a fully equipped Computer Lab and there are computer classes once a week for students in Grades 1-8.
- That we have a computer in every classroom with high speed Internet access.
- That both of our buildings also have wireless Internet access newly installed in March 2010.
- That 5 Smart Boards will be installed in the main building and 2 in Ward Meehan Hall in the Spring of 2010.
- That each floor of both buildings has a wireless lap top along with a projector to use the resources of the Internet for whole class instruction.
- That we recently received a grant from Discovery Education.com which provides streaming video on all academic subjects for our students and resources for our teachers.
- There is a band program available for those who are musically inclined.
- There is an after school program for children, which runs from 3-6:00P.M. on regular school days and from 12:30-6:00 P.M. on Wednesdays.
Students can participate on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. In September 2010, the program will run until 7:00p.m.
- During Catholic Schools Week there is an annual Science Fair for all students in grades 5-8 and on Student Appreciation Day, the students are treated to goodies.
- That we have a Medical Room with an R.N.
- That we have an Early Childhood Program for 3 and 4 year olds.
- That we have a full day Kindergarten Program with a Teacher and Assistant.
- That we have a very active Home School Association which provides support to the school and sponsors activities and treats for all our students.
- That we hold a license from the New York State Board of Regents to issue diplomas.
